CHANGE OF HEART SUPPORT GROUP MISSION STATEMENT
Membership: We are a Non-Profit, Non-Denominational Organization yet spiritually led. The group is open to heart transplant recipients, their caregivers, family members, anyone awaiting a heart transplant, any organ donor family. Change of Heart is inspired and awe stricken by the unselfish act of organ donors and their families. We can only respond to their gift as a "Miracle of Life, a Second Chance." It is our given responsibility to take care of that organ after transplant. Mission:
Organization: Director Dr. David Melvin, MD, started Change of Heart Transplant Support Group in 1986. his medical secretary Shirley Pemberton and Social Worker Kathy Gosney and lasted until 1990. The meetings were held at the hospital. Change of Heart was restarted in June 1993 by heart transplant recipients Debbie Baker, Terrie Carr and Ann McDonald upon the suggestion of Dr. Geetha Bhat, M.D. previous director of UC Hospital Heart Failure and Transplant clinic. The UC Health Alliance Medical staff Dr. Lynne Wagoner and Dr. Santosh Menon and nursing staff coordinators support our group today. Click Here to visit University Hospital's website. Meetings: Meetings are held the 1st Thursday each month except January, July and December @ 6:30 pm. They are held at Drake Rehab Conference Center on Galbraith Road. There are no meetings in January. For more info view our Events page. Annual Picnic: Is held 2nd Sunday in July@ 1:00 pm at Heart Transplant Recipient Darrell Harper’s Residence in Withamsville, Ohio. Cost is free, Donations Accepted. Annual Christmas Dinner is 1st Saturday night in December and specific location is announced in monthly newsletter. For more info view our Events page. |
